My name is Cátia Bruno and I am a journalist based in Lisbon, Portugal, the place where I was born.
I graduated in 2011 with a BA in Journalism. I worked as a staff writer for three national newspapers in the country - the prestigious Expresso, the longform-focused Observador and the innovative i. I also did work as a freelance journalist and fixer for some international publications like The New York Times, Roads & Kingdoms, GlobalPost, Kulturaustausch, New Eastern Europe, De Correspondent and EU Observer. I was also part of two projects tied to gender equality in journalism: NewsMavens and Sisters of Europe, which was nominated for the Innovation European Press Prize. Currently, I work as a freelance writer and fixer and I am taking an MA in Modern and Contemporary History. I have reported from Greece, Sweden and Poland, but also from places like Pennsylvania (USA), Mae Sai (Thailand) and Abu Dhabi (UAE), besides my own country — Portugal. I have also covered Brexit in depth, with reporting from all over the UK. The issues I care most about are human rights, inequality, social and political changes, as well as life stories.
